Costliest Natural Disasters

Just putting the recent Japanese disaster into perspective from a financial POV, Hurricane Katrina was roughly 2/3 as bad in terms of overall economic loss but at least a much larger portion of the damage was insured; unfortunately for Japan they get both 1st and 2nd place in this sadistic competition.

    Damn so its number one huh, in mexico there was an Earthquake that Devastated the capital but seeing as it isnt here im guessing that Mexico is mediocre even in Natural Disasters

    That's horrible, Japan has been taking a beating. Tragic, but they know how to handle these things, they'll get through it.

    one question, how do you count for the varying weight of the dollar while doing this? meaning a dollar today buys a lot less than what a dollar could 50 years ago.
